Guardiola vs Klopp, Man City vs Liverpool and 1st vs 4th. It’s a clash between arguably the 2 most exciting attacking teams in the league and it’s a game that you will not want to miss.
Earlier in the season City annihilated Klopp’s men at the Etihad after a controversial red card was shown to Sadio Mane. This time The Reds are without Coutinho after he sealed his £144m move to the Nou Camp but with Firmino and Salah on outstanding form Liverpool should have more than enough firepower to trouble a weakened City back line.
City have shown signs (albeit very small signs) of fatigue after the hectic festive period. Their win streak ended at Crystal Palace and Bristol City gave them a scare last time out in the league cup. If any side is going to punish any drop in intensity from Man City, it’s Liverpool and Klopp’s high pressing tactics.
Both sides come into the game with no new injury concerns with Liverpool having the defensive stability of Virgil Van Dijk to their ranks, a man that was targetting by City themselves. City remain without Kompany, Stones, Mendy and Gabriel Jesus but Aguero, Sane, De Bruyne and Ex-Liverpool boy Sterling are all expected to start at Anfield.
For Liverpool the job is clear, stop Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva getting on the ball in pockets of space although that’s easier said than done. Van Dijk will need to produce a commanding performance at the back if Liverpool are to take any control in this game.
Man City face a slightly different issue. They are good enough to play through the Liverpool press but successfully defending the Liverpool counter attack is vital. Klopp’s men will break at pace with Mane and Salah leading the charge. If Fabian Delph continues to deputise at left back then the battle down that side between himself and Mo Salah could prove key.
